Southern Spain still suffering from drought
According to the latest report from the Public Sanitation and Water Association, water levels in Spain show a significant contrast: while the north is seeing an improvement, southern regions such as the Costa del Sol continue to face extreme drought conditions. The association is calling on local authorities to step up water conservation measures to ensure water supply to affected areas.
The report notes that 16 municipalities in southern Spain, including areas in the Andalusian hinterland, Almeria and Marina Baja in Alicante, are in severe drought zones.
The Guadalquivir, Segura, Júcar, Guadalete-Barbate and Catalunya river basins remain particularly vulnerable, with water levels well below average.
The autumn rains have slightly improved the situation in cities such as Seville and Antequera, but in other areas such as Campo de Gibraltar, Guadalhorce and Acharquía, drought measures remain urgent.
