Ryanair cuts flights to Spain
Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced plans to cut flights to seven regional airports in Spain in the summer of 2025, citing “excessive charges” imposed by state-owned airport operator Aena.
The airline will reduce capacity on 12 routes by 18%, resulting in around 800,000 seats being cancelled compared to last summer. Ryanair will cease operations to the cities of Jerez and Valladolid, and will also reduce flights to Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Santander and Asturias Airport. As part of its strategy, the airline plans to redirect resources to countries such as Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Hungary and Morocco that are driving growth.
Despite freezing airport fees during the pandemic and a recent decision by the competition authority to prevent fees from rising in 2025, Ryanair continues to express concerns about these costs.
