Dutch couple buy abandoned village of Barcena de Bureba in Spain
A Dutch couple bought the abandoned village of Bárcena de Bureba in Spain, which has 62 houses. The purchase price was 350,000 euros. Although there is currently no electricity or running water and almost all the buildings are destroyed to the ground, the couple is confident that they will be able to breathe new life into this place.
The village has been empty since the 1970s and has become a victim of vandalism: the houses have lost even their window frames. However, this has not stopped the enthusiasts. They are actively restoring the buildings themselves, installing solar panels and dreaming of creating an ecological community.
Particular attention is drawn to the Romanesque church, which is in a state of disrepair. Despite its dilapidation, the couple hopes that the restoration will make it a unique symbol of the revived settlement.
The idea of reviving Bárcena de Bureba has already attracted the first like-minded people - four couples have expressed a desire to move there. The couple are confident that this project will be successful and will transform the abandoned village into a cozy place to live.
